Eklund’s, Inc. and KONE Inc. partnered in Kansas City, Missouri to complete eight custom elevator cabs for the newly constructed Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, a building designed by renowned architect Moshe Safdie. The project included three glass observation cars located in the stunning lobby. The observation cabs, as the one shown in the photo below, complement and enhance the beautiful modern architecture of the of the performing arts center in the heart of downtown Kansas City.
The Eklund’s-manufactured observation cabs are comprised of a combination of clear laminated tempered glass at the back and rear sides of the cab and bead blast stainless steel doors and front sides. The reveals, base, and frieze are also bead blasted stainless steel. Final touches include a bead blasted stainless handrail and four halogen down lights that complement the natural lighting from glass-encased lobby. A unique feature of the cab’s design, the rear portion of the cab is completely frameless glass, as is the canopy.
Home to the Kansas City Symphony, the Lyric Opera of Kansas City, and the Kansas City Ballet, Eklund’s was honored to be a part of the Kauffman Center project. Eklund’s is confident that the eye-catching design performing arts center will be enjoyed for many years to come by both performers and patrons of the arts.
